QuillBot
White Hat Humanization
QuillBot isn't really a detector-bypass tool, and it's more useful once you stop expecting it to be one. It's a paraphrasing and writing-improvement app built around a Synonym Slider — a real-time control that dials vocabulary from conservative to creative, highlighting every changed word so you can click it and choose the synonym yourself. Seven modes cover everything from grammar-fixing Fluency to vocabulary-elevating Academic, and it plugs into Chrome, Word and Google Docs. As a transparent rewriting and polishing tool it's excellent; as a way to beat an AI detector, it isn't built for that — and in our testing it doesn't.
A transparent rewriter
What makes QuillBot pleasant is that it feels like editing rather than generating. The Synonym Slider lets you control how much the vocabulary shifts, every change is marked in orange, and clicking a word shows alternatives you pick from — you choose the synonyms, you freeze the quotes, you keep control of the result. The modes do distinct jobs: Standard for balanced rewriting, Fluency for grammar and awkward-phrasing fixes, Creative for bolder style, Academic for formal vocabulary. Browser and document integrations mean it works where you already write.

How it holds up
As a writing tool, QuillBot earns its reputation: Fluency mode is genuinely good at cleaning up ESL grammar, the slider gives real, visible control over how far a rewrite goes, and the see-every-change transparency is rare and reassuring. Where it's honest to set expectations is detection. QuillBot is tuned to make writing clearer, not to disguise its origin, so its output still reads as AI to the detectors — the company even publishes its own AI detector. Treat it as a polish-and-paraphrase layer, and if your goal is clearing a detector, run a dedicated humanizer for that part of the job.
The verdict
For the ESL student or any writer who wants to fix grammar, tighten phrasing and control vocabulary with full transparency, QuillBot is a strong, trustworthy everyday tool — and the free tier is enough to feel it out. It's the wrong tool if your aim is to beat an AI detector, because that isn't what it's built to do. Use it for the writing itself, and pair it with a humanizer when passing a check is the point.
